This is a nice and quiet small state park. Those are its pros! Nicely kept, small, and quiet! There are also some sites that are right on the water of the bay. And from the beach, which is about 3 miles from the campground, you can see the Mackinaw Bridge on clear days!
The cons to this location is that, at this time, there are only 20 amp hookup for electrical sites. But I did hear of a possible reconstruction of the electrical at this location coming this fall. Also, the sites are fairly small! Other than that, this was a great place to visit!
This is my local beach. There is plenty of parking and plenty of beach. Soft sand from shore out through the entire swimming area. Shallow with some drop offs but great for families. Great for watching the sunset, and yes, you can see the Mackinac Bridge from here!
Feels very rustic, very UP NORTH. Most of the sites are pretty within the woods. Some sites have access to the bay, but there is no beach at the campground. You have to drive to the beach. You can howeve launch your kayak or paddle board from the campground.
Lovely state park up near the top of the Mitten. Nice launch area for a kayak, canoe, or SUP. Wish we had one to explore the marshy areas. Nicely marked trails. We recommend taking yellow from the campground to blue and then explore the east side of the park and waters edge on the green trail.
Loved our little walk along the shoreline. The actual trail is mostly gone due to high water but I just walked along bare footed. The water was warm and the scenery was very beautiful. We saw a couple of northern water snakes which was fun.
Stayed in Poe Reef rustic cabin, which is the only one that allows dogs (2 max - $10 per dog per night). Sleeps 8 on bunkbeds. Outhouse, pump for water, & great woodstove. Beautiful beach location!
One of the best places we have explored that has a sandy beach where you can walk out quite a ways in a Beautiful clear Lake, where it is still only knee deep. We always end up here when driving through Michigan!! You won't regret stopping here🙂 …
Awesome grills here! Very spacious.. Has a swing set and a slide for the kids. Horseshoes in an area, also. The beach was clean & theres a walk down path or u can walk one of the sandy trails over the small dune to get to the beach.. Has restrooms at the main pavilion and lots of tables spread throughout! Nice sunset watching area. Kids had fun (:
